题 目：Explore Star Formation Scenario in the Outer Disk of Galaxies

With a new generation of observational probes, it becomes feasible to study the far outer regions of nearby disk galaxies in a wide range of wavelength windows. In an inside-out scenario, late-type galaxies form stars in a time sequence that would predict ongoing activities significantly more conspicuous and prevalent in the outer disk. This appears to have been dramatically demonstrated with recent discoveries of the so-called "XUV disk" among many nearby galaxies. I will discuss the new observations and their possible implication to the star formation theory on galactic scale. I will pay particular attention to the roles that a galaxy's environment may play in the formation and evolution of its disk, through physical processes such as close galaxy encounters and ram pressure effects.
